Adin Ross Buys Breaking Bad House For $1.3 Million

The house that served as Walter White’s residence in the hit series Breaking Bad has been purchased by streamer Adin Ross after an intense bidding war. Originally listed for $4 million, the price was cut down 90% to $400,000 at the beginning of February and sold within a week.

The New York post claims it eventually sold for $1.3 million. Located in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the property is steeped in television history, drawing hundreds of fans daily to its curbside for photos and reenactments.

Owned by Joanne Quintana and her family since 1973, the home has become an overwhelming tourist attraction, prompting the family to seek closure and sell the property.

Property Highlights

  • Price: $1,300,000
  • Bedrooms/Bathrooms: 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms
  • Size: Approx. 1,910 square feet
  • Notable Features: Renowned for its role in Breaking Bad

History and Legacy

The home’s association with Breaking Bad began in 2008, when it was selected as the residence of Walter White, the show’s antihero. Scenes featuring the home, including Walter throwing a pizza onto the roof, are among the most memorable in television history, as shared by realtor Ryan Meeks in this Facebook video.

However, its notoriety has brought challenges for the Quintana family, who have endured years of trespassers and unwanted attention, leading to them finally listing it after 52 years of owning it.

Joanne’s Experience Of Owning The Home

In an hour long podcast with with Johnny James, Quintana mentions that when the show first began filming, her family embraced the attention, enjoying meeting fans from around the world and even taking pictures with them.

She recalls that it was exciting to interact with people from as far away as Siberia and Brazil, and celebrities and musicians would sometimes visit as well. At first, the family found the fan enthusiasm fun and even kept diaries of where visitors came from and what rental cars they drove.

However, as the show’s popularity grew, the situation changed drastically. Joanne explains that a small but disruptive percentage of fans began to disrespect her privacy and property, engaging in behavior ranging from stalking the house for hours to acts of vandalism, such as throwing pizzas on the roof and stabbing plastic forks into the lawn.

The situation escalated to the point where she and her family felt unsafe and she recounts incidents involving bomb squad visits, being “swatted” by prank calls to police, and receiving threats via phone and text.

The constant flow of intrusive visitors forced them to install a security fence in 2017 after a suspicious package was left at their door early one morning.

Despite attempts to deter visitors, including the gated fence, fan enthusiasm has persisted. The family hopes the new buyer will preserve the property, potentially transforming it into a museum or vacation rental to honor its cultural significance.

Motivations For The Sale

While it’s unclear what exactly Adin’s motivation was, it’s fair to say he may elect to stream from the infamous house, turn it into an AirBNB, or use it for other content and licensing purchases.

Ross who has publicly stated he makes well over half a million dollars a month, can comfortably afford this property, even if it went over asking.

For the Qunitana family, it’s likely a relief finally getting back their privacy after years of visitors coming at all hours of the day. For Ross, its now an opportunity to own maybe one of the most important pieces of entertainment history.
