Joanne’s Experience Of Owning The Home
In an hour long podcast with with Johnny James, Quintana mentions that when the show first began filming, her family embraced the attention, enjoying meeting fans from around the world and even taking pictures with them.
She recalls that it was exciting to interact with people from as far away as Siberia and Brazil, and celebrities and musicians would sometimes visit as well. At first, the family found the fan enthusiasm fun and even kept diaries of where visitors came from and what rental cars they drove.
However, as the show’s popularity grew, the situation changed drastically. Joanne explains that a small but disruptive percentage of fans began to disrespect her privacy and property, engaging in behavior ranging from stalking the house for hours to acts of vandalism, such as throwing pizzas on the roof and stabbing plastic forks into the lawn.
The situation escalated to the point where she and her family felt unsafe and she recounts incidents involving bomb squad visits, being “swatted” by prank calls to police, and receiving threats via phone and text.
The constant flow of intrusive visitors forced them to install a security fence in 2017 after a suspicious package was left at their door early one morning.
Despite attempts to deter visitors, including the gated fence, fan enthusiasm has persisted. The family hopes the new buyer will preserve the property, potentially transforming it into a museum or vacation rental to honor its cultural significance.
