David Murdock’s Manhattan Duplex Apartment Lists For $15 Million

The Manhattan apartment of late billionaire businessman and former Dole Food Company CEO David H. Murdock has hit the market for $15 million, marking its first time for sale in more than four decades.

Murdock, who died in 2025 at age 102, purchased the Fifth Avenue duplex in 1984 and used it as a pied-à-terre while traveling from his Southern California home to New York for business meetings.

Spread across two levels, the Renaissance Palazzo-style co-op was designed by J.E.R. Carpenter to have the scale and separation of a traditional townhouse.

Final Thoughts

There’s a lot to love about this apartment, from its interiors to its location directly across from Central Park.

Plus, over the past century, the address has attracted a number of notable residents, including Nelson Rockefeller and William Randolph Hearst.

Therefore, with Murdock’s estate now selling the apartment following his passing, the next owner will be taking over a residence shaped by both his long ownership, the location, and the history of the building.
