Jackie and John F. Kennedy’s Former Washington D.C. Townhouse Sells For $6.1 Million
One of the most historically significant homes in Georgetown has sold for $6.1 million. Jackie and John F. Kennedy purchased the Federal-style townhouse in 1957 for $82,000, making it their first owned residence in Washington, D.C., as JFK’s political career was rapidly ascending.
The home served as the backdrop for some of the most important years of the Kennedy family’s life, including the birth of their children, Caroline Kennedy, and the late John F. Kennedy Jr.
The residence even functioned as an informal headquarters during Kennedy’s successful 1960 presidential campaign.
Originally built in 1811 for financier William Marbury, whose landmark Supreme Court case “Marbury v. Madison” established judicial review, the property bridges two of the most well-known chapters in American history.

The Townhouse’s Kennedy Years
After their 1957 purchase, Jackie reportedly invested roughly $18,000 renovating the interiors, furnishing the home with Louis XV-era pieces, antiques, and carefully selected decor that reflected her iconic eye for design.
During the family’s time there, the residence became both a home and a political gathering place. The double parlor served as a setting for meetings with advisors and future cabinet members, while Jackie hosted intimate political gatherings that helped support her husband’s growing national profile.
Today’s Modern Updates
Today’s sellers, retired financial analyst Vincent Griski and his partner, Cameron Knight, undertook a series of careful improvements designed to respect the home’s historic character as seen in the video tour from Sotheby’s International Realty.
The home’s classic Federal architecture remains largely intact, defined by symmetrical windows, green shutters, a fanlight entry, and restrained detailing that has allowed it to age gracefully over more than two centuries.
The pair also reopened a previously sealed fireplace, installed period-appropriate mantels, and enhanced the gardens with new landscaping, including dogwood trees and multiple outdoor entertaining areas.
Final Thoughts
Few homes can claim connections to both the founding years of the United States and one of the country’s most celebrated political families.
From William Marbury’s role in shaping constitutional law to the Kennedy family’s rise to the White House, this residence has witnessed an impressive array of American history.
Now, for its new owner, the property offers, of course, a prestigious Georgetown address but also a comforting place to call home, with bright light, lots of outdoor space, and plenty of room for a family to grow.
