Ken Griffey Jr. Looks to Sell Lakefront Florida Mansion For $27 Million
Baseball Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. has put his Windermere, Florida, estate on the market for $27 million.
Known as “The Kid” during his legendary 22-year MLB career, Griffey and his wife, Melissa, purchased the 11.5-acre lakefront lot in 2004 for just under $2.6 million and built a custom Mediterranean-style mansion that was completed in 2008.
Nearly two decades later, the estate stands as one of the largest private residential compounds in Central Florida with over 440 feet of frontage on Cypress Lake.

Inside Griffey’s Windermere Estate
Beyond the gated entrance, a double motor court and porte-cochère lead to the Mediterranean-inspired residence, where turreted wings, stone detailing, and arched windows welcome you to the home.
Inside, a dramatic 28-foot foyer is anchored by a double staircase lined with intricate ironwork and towering windows that flood the space with natural light.
Past the staircase, the main living areas feature exposed wood beams, custom millwork, designer lighting, and multiple connections to the outdoor spaces.
At the heart of those spaces is a chef’s kitchen with professional-grade appliances, custom cabinetry, expansive stone countertops, a hidden pantry, and an oversized island designed for gathering.
However, what truly sets Griffey’s estate apart is that its design is meant to accommodate a variety of amenities, including a state-of-the-art theater, golf simulator, game rooms, wine room, fitness center, private elevator, and a fully integrated smart-home system.
A Look at The Grounds
Heading outside, the grounds center around a 125,000-gallon pool with cascading waterfalls, a waterslide, and a diving board, all surrounded by expansive terraces and numerous lounge areas.
Beyond the pool, the estate extends its recreational offerings with a private basketball court, boat dock, and access to the Butler Chain of Lakes through a community boat ramp.

Why is Griffey Selling?
After retiring from baseball in 2010, Griffey Jr. explored a variety of pursuits, including becoming a sports photographer and, in 2021, joining the Seattle Mariners ownership group.
Today, while he has not publicly shared his reasons for selling, reports suggest he and his family may be looking to downsize, after the home has served as a base throughout much of his post-playing career.
As Griffey continues expanding his passions, the listing of his lakefront estate offers a potential buyer the opportunity to acquire 11 acres with more than 22,000 square feet of living space, resort-style amenities, and extensive entertaining areas in the Orlando area.
