Steven Spielberg Lists L.A. Equestrian Ranch For $29.9 Million
Legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg and his wife, actress Kate Capshaw, have listed their Los Angeles equestrian ranch for $29.9 million after more than 25 years of ownership.
Known as Dogwood, the estate sits on 2.8 acres across two separate parcels in Sullivan Canyon.
The couple purchased the property in 1999 for $5.75 million, initially envisioning an ambitious renovation that included a five-story, 27,000-square-foot riding facility and more than $7 million in additional improvements.
Although those plans never materialized following backlash from neighbors, the estate has continued to house the couple’s horses.

Inside Spielberg’s LA Ranch
Surrounded by oak trees, Spielberg’s ranch was designed by architect Michael Kovac, with interiors by Michael Smith and landscaping by Christine London.
On the upper parcel, the main residence overlooks the surrounding canyon, with walnut flooring and plaster walls extending throughout the main living spaces, including the formal living room and dining area, which opens directly to the grounds.
Nearby, the chef’s kitchen includes a casual dining nook and a wood-burning fireplace before opening to a family room and an Ipe wood terrace overlooking a reflecting pond.
The home’s lower level is dedicated to entertainment, with a media and game room accompanied by a large walk-in wine cellar.
Professional Equestrian Spaces
The estate’s best feature is its extensive collection of equestrian amenities, which take up a substantial portion of the grounds.
Directly across the reflecting pond from the main residence stands a professional six-stall barn equipped with an executive office, staff quarters, three grooming stations, a feed kitchen, and additional storage.
Above the barn is a 20,000-square-foot riding arena with a mirrored wall and an observation deck, allowing riders and trainers to monitor activity within the space.
Lower Parcel Facilities
A private entrance serves the property’s lower parcel, which contains a second four-stall barn, bringing the estate’s total capacity to ten horse stalls.
This additional facility includes approximately 5,400 square feet of turnout space, providing a separate area for horses outside their stalls.
Also on the lower parcel is a one-bedroom guesthouse with its own kitchen, rooftop deck, and basement office.

Final Thoughts
Over the decades since purchasing Dogwood, Spielberg and Capshaw shaped the estate around their equestrian life, making good use of the professional riding facilities, multiple barns, and separate accommodations for guests and staff.
Rather than functioning as a traditional family residence, the property became a dedicated place for their horses, with its extensive facilities reflecting the role it has played in their lives since the late 1990s.
For its next owner, Dogwood offers the opportunity to continue that equestrian use while enjoying the privacy of a nearly three-acre estate in one of Los Angeles’ most secluded canyon neighborhoods.
