Suzy Welch Sells NYC Townhouse For $23 Million
Suzy Welch, business journalist and the author of “Becoming You”, has sold her Upper East Side townhouse for $23 million, after listing the property for $26 million.
Welch bought the home in 2021 for $22.75 million and oversaw its recent transformation into a refined, turnkey mansion, positioned on one of the Upper East Side’s most desirable townhouse blocks.
The townhouse is one of the neighborhood’s widest and most garden-forward private residences, tied to a figure long associated with American business leadership through her late husband, Jack Welch.

First Look Inside Welch’s Townhouse
Inside Welch’s townhouse, the double-wide mansion has been reimagined with a focus on light, volume, and flow between the indoors and outdoors, as seen in the posts from Deborah Grubman and Robb Report.
Double-height rooms open directly to the garden, while a chef’s kitchen connects to a family room with French doors leading outside.
Formal entertaining spaces are balanced by warm, wood-paneled interiors, including an English pine library and multiple fireplaces that add to the home’s traditional-meets-modern character.
The upper floors are organized for privacy and flexibility. The full-floor primary suite overlooks the garden and stretches the entire width of the house, while additional bedrooms and living areas occupy the upper levels.
Our Top Favorite Spots
Here are the two areas of Suzy Welch’s Upper East Side townhouse that stand out most to us, for how they’re designed and the unique character they bring to the home.
Chef’s Kitchen
The kitchen is centered around custom green cabinetry framed by a wide curved archway beneath the second-floor landing.
Inside, a marble-topped island with bar seating centers the layout, making it equally suited for everyday cooking and hosting, which is exactly why it stands out as a favorite.
Private Garden
Outside, the private garden unfolds as a true extension of the townhouse, with multiple French doors opening directly onto a brick patio surrounded by climbing greenery.
Its size, privacy, and direct access to the indoors place it among the largest gardens on the Upper East Side, making it a rare outdoor setting that elevates the listing.
House Tour With Suzy
A year before listing the home, Welch invited Homeworthy inside for an in-depth tour, walking viewers through the story behind the design, the art choices, and how each room was intentionally used during her four years living there.
Why is Welch Selling?
Now that her children are grown and her day-to-day life no longer centered around a full townhouse, Suzy Welch has chosen to downsize while remaining rooted on the Upper East Side.
With that motivation, she has already purchased a roughly $24 million Park Avenue penthouse, bought around the same time this townhouse was listed.
With the original listing price of $26 million, the sale would have positioned Welch to fund her new home fully. However, with a slightly lower closing price of $23 million, she’ll have to fund $1 million of the new home out of pocket.
