Inside the Home Alone House
Stepping into the foyer feels instantly familiar, because it’s the very spot where Kevin McCallister famously slid across the hardwoods and where the McCallister family’s holiday chaos first unfolded.
But instead of the deep reds and patterned wallpapers from the film, the space today has been completely reimagined with a cleaner, more polished aesthetic.

The staircase still commands the room with its iconic curve, but its bright white spindles and dark-stained treads give it a crisp, modern profile.
The glossy floors reflect natural light pouring in from the windows above, replacing the movie’s warm, cluttered entry with something sleeker.

From here, the layout opens to the living and dining rooms that frame the foyer just like they did in the film. However, the updated finishes offer a fresher, more streamlined version of the home you remember.

Living Room
To the left of the foyer is the living room where the McCallisters hung their stockings above the fireplace, and Kevin’s small Christmas tree sat.
The bones of the room are the same as they appeared on screen, like the wide doorway, the long stretch of windows, and the central fireplace, but the aesthetic has shifted dramatically.

The fireplace now wears a sleek herringbone surround, framed by understated art rather than garlands.
Built-ins along the far wall, once crowded with seasonal décor in the film, now hold curated books and simple objects that add to the home’s newly refined tone.

Formal Dining Room
On the other side of the foyer, you enter the formal dining room, now with deep blue velvet chairs, modern wingbacks, and a mirrored sideboard replacing the traditional furniture seen in the movie.

Sunlight moves across the dark wood floors and grasscloth walls, highlighting a contemporary pendant where a classic chandelier once hung.
Transformed Kitchen
Rounding the corner, the house opens into a bright, modern kitchen. Two large islands ground the space, replacing the busy patterns of Home Alone with clean lines, dark wood cabinetry, and crisp white counters.

Professional appliances stretch along the back wall, including a long Wolf range, creating a setup that could easily handle McCallister dinners.
Pendant lights run in a neat row overhead, giving the room the same sense of movement the movie once captured, just with far more polish.

Tucked beside it, a built-in breakfast nook wraps the windows, keeping the kitchen connected and open.

Brand New Family Room
One of the most dramatic transformations in the Home Alone house extends just past the kitchen into what is now a large family room, a space that didn’t exist at all in the film.
In the early ’90s layout, the back wall sat much closer, closing the house off right behind the kitchen. It was the very spot where Kevin hid with the BB gun, waiting for Harry and Marv as they tried to break in through the doggy door.

Today, that once-tight boundary has been pushed outward into a full addition, opening the rear of the home into a bright, contemporary gathering space.
Coffered ceilings, French doors, and rows of windows bring in light from every direction, and the room now flows naturally from the kitchen.

Primary Suite
The second floor opens into a reimagined primary suite where the bedroom centers around a tufted headboard and a working fireplace, with multiple windows.

En-Suite Bathroom
The en-suite bathroom has a crisp, all-white palette with a polished nickel soaking tub positioned beneath a row of shuttered windows.

Dual vanities provide plenty of storage and counter space, while classic sconces and a sculptural chandelier add just enough glamour to elevate the room without overwhelming it.

Attic Junior Suite
Tucked at the top of the house, the attic has been fully reimagined into a polished junior suite, a far cry from the drafty storage space Kevin was banished to in the movie.
The low eaves and angular ceilings are still present, but now they’re worked into the design, framing a bright bedroom lined with built-in drawers beneath a long row of windows.

En-Suite Bathroom
The connected bathroom brings a level of comfort with a deep soaking tub, marble-topped vanity, and classic hex tile, turning what was once the most avoided part of the house into one of its most inviting.

Lower Level Amenities
The lower level, once the shadowy backdrop of Kevin’s furnace-induced nightmares, has been completely reimagined into a collection of high-end recreational spaces that feel nothing like the basement from the film.
Movie Theater
The movie theater brings the nostalgia full circle with plush leather seating, a projection screen, and even a playful nod to Home Alone with its decor.

Poker Room
Just steps away, the poker room offers a polished setup with a full wet bar and custom cabinetry, all overlooking the sports court below.

Indoor Sports Court
Last but not least is the indoor sports court, a full-scale facility with a true three-point line, pro-grade lighting, and enough height and width to rival a training center.

The Grounds
Stepping out from the new family room, the home opens into a fully screened-in porch with a brick fireplace, mounted TV, and generous seating for outdoor entertaining at any time of year.

The porch leads directly to a sweeping lawn that stretches across just over half an acre, a rare luxury in this part of Winnetka.

Final Thoughts
The Home Alone house has long been etched into holiday pop culture, and this newest chapter of its life only deepens that legacy.
Despite the thoughtful renovation and modern amenities, the estate still offered a chance to steward one of the most recognizable homes in movie history.
That cultural weight isn’t lost on the people who helped make it famous. Macaulay Culkin joked at a 2024 screening that he “had half a mind” to buy the home himself and turn it into a “movie fun house” for fans to reenact scenes from the Christmas classic.
He ultimately passed, but the listing reignited a nationwide wave of nostalgia as buyers were eager for the chance to own a true piece of Hollywood history.
