Venture Capitalist Tim Draper Lists San Francisco Penthouse For $5.2 Million

Venture capitalist Tim Draper and his wife, Melissa, have listed their San Francisco penthouse for $5.2 million after more than 15 years of ownership.

The couple purchased the nearly 3,000-square-foot Nob Hill residence for $3.5 million in 2010, decades after it was owned by newspaper publisher Randolph Apperson Hearst and his wife, Catherine Wood Campbell Hearst.

Their daughter, actress Patty Hearst, was required to live at the penthouse in her parents’ custody during the 1970s while out on bail pending the appeal of her notorious bank robbery conviction.

The penthouse with this historic past occupies the highest full-floor residence in the 1914 Beaux-Arts building designed by Houghton Sawyer.

Why is Draper Selling?

Draper and his wife are selling the penthouse simply because they were no longer using it enough to justify keeping it, particularly as his attention remains focused on Draper Associates, Draper University, and “Meet the Drapers”, his startup-investment competition show.

For its next owner, the residence includes so much more than a prominent full-floor penthouse in one of San Francisco’s classic Beaux-Arts buildings.

It offers luxurious interiors, private balconies, a skylit living room, and a flexible layout, all matched by a unique history tied to the Hearst family.
